CHEERING ON OUR BRIGHT FUTURE

An adorably cute, little robot gymnast catches the bar after a backflip, and then does a triple backflip dismount

Our future is going to be filled with robots. They’ll be everywhere and do things that, in this present day, make our jaws drop. I’m excited to see where this takes us, but, of course, it’s a little scary every time technology leaps ahead of our ability to comprehend where it’s going.

Yo! Home is a design concept of a future living space, taking a moving room approach to fitting more in less space. In these images you can see the conversion of a bedroom into a living room.

Greenstar, Floating Hotel and Conference Center, Maldives

Pack your bags, we’re all going to The Maldives in January 2014 when this gorgeous hotel is planning to launch. And in case you missed it in the title, this is a FLOATING hotel — not to be confused with a cruise ship.

"The Greenstar is a Floating Hotel with 800 rooms and a Conference Center for up to 2000 participants. The Greenstar will blend-in naturally with the existing surrounding islands. The green covered star-shape building symbolizes Maldivians innovative route to conquer climate change. This will become the #1 location for conferences about climate change, water management and sustainability. A unique Floating Restaurant Island will be built next to it."

Flyable Car, Driveable Aircraft

I love the concept of this vehicle and can’t wait to drive/fly one myself someday.

Click on the site below and take a moment to daydream over the the future ecological cities of Vincent Callebaut, an award-winning architect who focuses on a “very positive vision for our eco-lifestyles inspired by biomimicry.” Many of his designs are incredible and I was excited to see that some are actually in active development.

My next home…
…will be the Sky Tower from the movie Oblivion. Think about how little the real estate cost would be. You’d need maybe 30 square feet for the base of the tower since all of the living area is in the sky. The savings online would make this thing pay for itself! I’m off to Home Depot to get construction supplies…

With the Peugeot Moovie concept car you won’t be able to find loose change under the seats. I love the look of it and would so enjoy whirling around town in it, although I imagine you’d need the air on all the time when the sun is out as that glass bubble will get hot.

The Office of the Future…
Will have display technology that will put what we use today to shame. Monitors as we know them will be replaced by visual walls, much like this rendering. Desks will both display information and receive input. Devices in abundance will be in our pockets and in the room, each giving us data that we need for our business or our personal life. We’ll probably laugh at the 27” inch displays that seem so huge today when we’re looking at our 10x12’ 2,156,000 x 5,112,000 pixel displays.

Glowing Plants: Street Lights of the Future?
At the Growing Plant Project, a team of young scientists and visionaries is working to create bioluminescent plants that will eventually lead to full-sized glowing trees designed to replace street lamps. Imagine the beauty at night of city streets and parks lit with a bioluminescent forest.
Using the genetic code in fireflies and glowing sea-life to modify existing plants isn’t easy but this team has a great head-start. Their Kickstarter campaign had a goal of raising $65,000 and ended up with $484,000 in 44 days.

nCycle: “The revolutionary e-bike that locks itself, carries your payload in style and takes out all the worries of owning a bicycle, leaving you only the pleasure of riding it.”

Now this is a bike! Everything about traditional bicycles has been rethought on the nCycle leaving you with a bike that has both good looks and brains. A great leap into the future for sure.
